CAUSATIVE CONSTRUCTIONS IN EXPRESSING OPPOSITION
‘US/THEM’ IN BRITISH AND AMERICAN DISCOURSE OF MEDIA
ID: 0421200038\0128
Key words: discourse of media, linking verb,
opposition, causative situation, force dynamics theory
The
paper addresses the correlation between the ‘us/them’ opposition and causative
relations in British and American discourse of media. In particular, treatment
of constructions with causative linking verbs while expressing the opposition
under study in reference to the force dynamics theory is investigated. Contexts,
in which causative constructions determine the axiological nature of the
opposition ‘us/them’, are considered in feature articles and news reports about
conflicts.

FUNCTIONS AND SENSE OF EXPOSITIVE IN CONFLICT DISCOURSE
ID: 0421200038\0130
Key words: expositive, conflict discourse,
verbal makers, strategies, tactic models
Our work is dedicated to the researching of verbal expression of expositive in
the field of conflict discourse. We have studied the ways and means of its
expression and described the models of collocations and phrases that are used in
human communication. Both verbal makers and peculiarities of illocutive dominant
have been found and systemized as well as its consequent. Also we elicit
strategies and tactic models that can help to keep interlocutors from any
failure in their communication.

PRAGMATIC-SEMANTIC FUNCTIONAL OF COMMUNICATIVE CONSTRUCT «INTIMIDATION»
ID: 0421200038\0131
Key words: agonal discourse, intimidation,
communicative construct, communicative practice of intimidation, illocutionary
potential, manipulation, political menasology, pragmatic influence, speech genre
The proposed study is aimed at revealing the functional and semantic properties
of the communicative construct «intimidation» as a variety of one of the applied
forms of menasive discourse, used in a confrontation between rival parties for
dominant positions in society. The article considers the linguo-vocabulary
mechanism of functioning of the regulatory manipulative units with the
illocutionary potential of «intimidation» characterizing verbal behavior of a
person in a situation of confrontation and conflict. Semantic specificity and
pragmatic-communicative status of discursive-cognitive construct with value of
«communicative intimidation» are described. Special attention is paid to
development of complex interactive concept «intimidation» as a tunnel sign
manipulative-informational space of socio-political communication. The proposed
study lays the foundation for the formation and development of a special
scientific direction in linguistic pragmatics called «functional-political
menasology».

POETICS, PHONOSEMANTICS AND LINGUA-COLORING PALETTE OF THE MIDDLE-EARTH ARTLANGS

Key words: linguistic poetics, linguistic
typology, characterology of the language, phonoaesthetics, phonosemantics,
artlang, reception of artlang, Lingua-coloring palette, Quenya, Khuzdul, Black
Speech
The article is dedicated to eliciting the inherent emotive and semantic values
of artificial languages of races of Middle-Earth, created by the famous English
writer and philologist J.R.R. Tolkien. Following a most traditional multifaceted
descriptive linguistic study of such fancy languages as Quenya, Khuzdul and
Black Speech, another insight into fascinating power of each was produced
through association experiment, including semantic differential scaling and
attribution of a special color palette to each. These methods exposed high
quality of the artlangs.

EQUIPOLLENT POLYLEXEMIC TERMS AS A SPECIFIC
PHENOMENON OF THE ENGLISH LEGAL TERMINOLOGY
ID: 0421200038\0133
Key words: legal term, equipollent
word-combination, structure of terms, semantics, definition
The article deals with one of the topical issues of general terminology related
to the nomination process and formation of meanings of poly-lexemic units. The
aim of the study is to consider one type of poly-lexemic equipollent terms
formed with the help of coordinating conjunctions. In modern English legal
linguistics, there is an opinion according to which equipollent
word-combinations include semantically homogeneous components (synonyms), which
cause redundancy of the plane of expression of terms. The analysis of the
material of the English legal dictionaries has shown that the plane of
expression of some terms of the equipollent type is redundant, indeed. However,
in a number of cases, there is a specific semantic correlation of the plane of
the content between terminological elements in equipollent terms, which, as in
poly-lexemic terms of the dominant type, serves as a means of clarifying legal
concepts, thereby expanding the taxonomic series of one classification level.

FUNCTIONAL-STYLISTIC FEATURES OF SYNTACTIC
REPETITIONS IN ENGLISH AGREEMENTS AND TREATIES
ID: 0421200038\0134
Key words: legal discourse, legal
communication, agreement, syntactic arrangement, syntactic repetition
The article reveals specific features of syntactic repetitions in English
agreements. The investigation focuses on functional-stylistic potential of
syntactic repetitions in legal texts. The contribution reviews the typology of
syntactic repetitions and singles out their functional-stylistic features. The
paper analyses various types of syntactic repetitions in terms of their
prevalence in the legal discourse. The research has demonstrated that English
agreements frequently contain the following types of syntactic repetitions:
anaphora, framing, anadiplosis, and parallelism. These figures of speech perform
a wide range of functions in legal agreements: they structure the text,
facilitate text perception by the recipient, and equalise the status of
agreement provisions and parties as seen by the addressee. The study of text
building models of legal agreements may allow to increase efficiency of
negotiations and fixation of their results.
